Carmelo Anthony has been traded to Atlanta, but don't expect to see him suiting up for the Hawks next season.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Steven Adams' Thunder have shipped Anthony to the Hawks along with a protected 2022 first-round draft pick, in return for Dennis Schroder and Mike Muscala.
Twitter reacted to the news by applauding the 10-time All-Star's ability to continue to make his money.
Anthony will be waived and the Houston Rockets will be the frontrunner. In 121 National Basketball Association games, Luwawu-Cabarrot has averaged 6.1 points in 16.5 minutes per game.
"That deal would've left $9M-plus on books next three years, so Schroder $15.5M per year becomes bargain - and an asset that could stay or be traded again". There, he will play alongside good friend Chris Paul and MVP James Harden, in an attempt to beat the Golden State Warriors. Atlanta will receive Anthony, Justin Anderson and the protected first-rounder.
"One area where Anthony could boost the Heat would be his 3-point shooting, at least his volume of conversions, having made a career-high 169 last season", he wrote. That's particularly noteworthy because Carmelo Anthony, who's no longer on the team, had 3.1 such plays per game last season. But by trading for Lin, the Hawks gave themselves a veteran point guard who can be a mentor to Young this season - and one who, if he can stay healthy after two injury-riddled seasons in Brooklyn, they could flip before February's trade deadline.
He came to a mutual understanding with the Thunder that his scaled-back role with the team isn't what he wants, so it was always likely that he would sign with a new team this summer. But it was clear that the top priorities were getting Schroder out of the mix and picking up a decent draft pick, both of which they did.
