The shootings reportedly happened just before noon Sunday.
Police spokesman Sgt. Jacob Becchina says the first two officers were shot while working in an undercover operation at a motel less than 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) from Kauffman Stadium, where the Kansas City Royals play. They are looking for the suspect in the area of I-70 and 40 Highway.
During surveillance, they followed that person of interest to another location. A KCPD spokesperson stated that two of the officers shot with a rifle earlier in the day were undercover at the time of the shooting. The vehicle later stopped, with the driver fleeing the scene on foot.
The vehicle and passenger were found a short time later. He was shot and taken into custody.
Officers using some kind of flash-bang device around 6 p.m.to blast their way into the house at 30th and Topping. Police tracked that vehicled down, more gunfire was exchanged.
A third officer was later hit by gunfire and was taken to a nearby hospital, according to the office. Both were rushed to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Koppu, the university student who was killed in the shooting that police were investigating, was a software engineer who came from India to the United States in January, according to a GoFundMe page set up by his family. "We are sad to hear that news".
He said his wife was yet to recover from the shock and her condition was still alarming. On the same lines, we are equally disheartened hearing about the three officers who were shot in pursuit. Two officers were shot there.
