The battle royale, last-man-standing-style game starts with 100 players parachuting on to an island. In addition to balance changes and bug fixes, the latest version of Fortnite adds new locations to explore, a new vehicle to drive around the map, more challenges for free players to complete, and, as always, plenty of new cosmetics to unlock.
The roof of the ATK also functions as a bounce pad.
Marked in red on the map above, the free battle star can be found in the umbrella cave in between Pleasant Park and Lazy Links. Weekly challenges are available for anyone who purchases the Season 5 Battle Pass, which can be had for 950 in-game "V-Bucks", or roughly $10. Epic Games says that Rifts will instantly take players to a random location when they step into them. All four members of a squad can climb inside, but also work together to enable higher jumps using a well-timed lean. Polygon speculates that it might even transport players to an entirely different map. However, the first storm circle will now only ever do 1 damage, no matter how long you're stuck in it. Other un-named POI have also been added to the island.
"Super Deluxe and Limited Founders packs will return for the duration of the sale", reads an Epic blog post.
Heavy shotguns now fire ten pellets rather than five, but the overall damage of the shot is unchanged, meaning that each individual pellet now does half the damage it did before, but there are twice as many. For the Nintendo Switch, Epic games has also included motion controls which can be adjusted in the Settings menu.
Another change is how players are able to earn extra XP when playing big team modes.
