And though the report said Kim had briefed officials outlook for dialogue between Washington and Pyongyang, it did not directly mention a planned meeting between the North Korean leader and U.S. President Donald Trump.
This confirmation comes a month after a South Korean delegation announced that North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has expressed his desire to meet President Trump. -North Korea contact is proceeding smoothly.
The North Korean leader discussed the "prospect of the DPRK-U.S. dialogue" as well as "strategic and tactical issues to be maintained" by the party, "including the future policy of global relations and the orientation corresponding to them", according to KCNA.
Kim Jong-un is due to meet with South Korea's President at an inter-Korea summit later this month.
Mr Kim's remarks on Monday did not specifically refer to a summit with Mr Trump.
Either way, "denuclearization", in the sense that Kim means it, does not equate to what the United States has long sought on the Peninsula: the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of North Korea.
The US has already made it clear they will only be willing to hold talks with the Kim regime if they agreed to nuclear disarmament.
"The North's approach toward to the U.S.is still cautious", Kim said. He did not clarify where the session might take place.
Officials said that the message from Pyongyang was delivered directly to the Trump Administration.
The forthcoming summit "will be very exciting for the world", Trump said.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in first invited North Korea to a summit in April in the DMZ, which separates the two nations on the Korean Peninsula.
The confirmation follows what seems to be weeks of backchannel diplomatic efforts between the United States and the North Korean government, with the US effort being led primarily by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
No specifics have yet emerged concerning the date or venue, with a 3rd country such as Mongolia or Sweden reportedly under consideration to host the talks.
