Lesnar faced Reigns in the main event of last night's (Sun., April 8, 2018) WrestleMania XXXIV, defeating him and retaining the WWE Universal title. You can read his full announcement on the matter down below.
What this means is all still up in the air. Last week, UFC president Dana White confirmed Lesnar's impending return to the Octagon, although he didn't give a timetable for when the move would be made, according to MMAFighting.com. Given his MMA background, he seems like the flawless star to step up to Lesnar and if the Universal Champion is still in New Orleans, then the WWE Universe could be in for a treat tonight on Raw.
Additionally, The Wrestling Observer had reported Lesnar's contract expired after WrestleMania and that he hadn't signed an extension yet. But clearly Vince McMahon had other plans. The match between the ultimate gladiators of WWE happened after the big dog defeated John Cena, Braun Strowman, Elias, Seth Rollins, The Miz at the Elimination Chamber Match. After a Wrestlemania 34 recap montage, we see Reigns slowly make his way up the entrance ramp before looking back toward the crowd, seemingly in disbelief.
The fans booed both wrestlers as they entered the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, there were chants of, "this is awful" and neither Reigns nor Lesnar could garner any sort of emotion from the crowd other than apathy. He had a good match with Shinsuke Nakamura and was the victor. He points out that Reigns is a tough guy and he'd never lie down for the 3-count for Lesnar if Lesnar legitimately went into business for himself like that. The fans rejected a babyface Roman Reigns years ago, and WWE never pivoted. The heelish duo thought they had taken out Bryan before the match even started, but he got back in it and ended up making Zayn tap out to get the win for his team to likely send Owens and Zayn to Raw. He climbed Reigns and delivered a series of elbows to his head which left him bleeding badly. He pours his heart and soul into his career and night after night, week after week, WrestleMania after WrestleMania, the fans reject him. Nothing. He's the victim of Vince McMahon's stubbornness.
With CM Punk out as any sort of option, which unannounced icon do you think might show up to WrestleMania 34?
Brock Lesnar (5-3 (1 NC) MMA, 4-3 (1 NC) UFC) is a former UFC heavyweight champion after he beat UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture at UFC 91.
Bryan returned to in-ring competition for the first time in two years. Hopefully, we get some answers tonight.
