According to police spokesperson Manoj Pandita, "Manzoor Ahmed Bhat was abducted along with his father Abdul Gaffar Bhat by Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists who stormed their house in Hajin area on the intervening night of April 4 and 5".
On Wednesday night, terrorists barged into the house of Abdul Gaffar Bhat in north Kashmir's Hajin and abducted Gaffar and his son Manzoor.
They said panic gripped Bonmohalla Hajin in Bandipora this morning when some villagers saw a headless body in an orchard. His father Ghulam Mohammad Bhat escaped even when he was sacked upon and got hit.
Police said before abducting father-son duo, terrorists thrashed the family members black-and-blue without caring about the dignity of inmates. SSP Bandipora Zulfikar told Mirror that they have recovered the body with throat slit at Bon Mohalla Hajin. He said Lashkar terrorist Mohammed Saleem Parrey is believed to have played a major role in the murder.
Azad claimed the Lashkar-e-Toiba leadership was wiped out from the area previous year, but a new group had become active now.
Hajin had been a militant hotbed in the early 90s.
He identified foreign militants of LeT as Abu Muslim, Hubaib, Khalid, Abu Hamza and Haider. "The scourge of terror has hit a new low as the brutality of this act has left us all in shock".
Parrey, a resident of Hajin, had joined the LeT ranks previous year.
Former Chief Minister and National Conference working president Omar Abdullah also condemned the killing and asked why there was no anger against the killing. "Any shutdown call or call for "peaceful protests" for Manzoor Ahmed who's decapitated body was found. No? I'm not surprised", he tweeted.
