According to reports, San Antonio's medical staff has been in NY on both occasions to stay updated on his progress.

"I don't know when he's going to feel, he and his group are going to feel like they're ready to go", Popovich said Sunday prior to a game against Houston.

For the second time this season, San Antonio Spurs star Kawhi Leonard has traveled to NY to continue rehabilitation for his lingering right quad injury under the supervision of outside medical personnel, league sources told ESPN.

The 6-foot-7 forward has worked out at the NBA Players Association facility in Manhattan during both of his stays in NY. He spent an extended period in NY prior to the February All-Star break.

"Sometimes you feel like an alien to the core group and you've got to fight through it", Ginobili said.

Leonard missed the first 27 games of the season with the quad injury, returned for nine games, and was then listed as out indefinitely to further rehab his injury.

Leonard, 26, is a two-time All-NBA Defensive Player of the Year, two-time Defensive Player of the Year and MVP of the 2014 NBA Finals. "It was a rehab for me for eight months. You just try to stay positive". He returned to the team's lineup briefly but has not played since complaining of soreness in his injured thigh following the Spurs' home win over Denver on January 13. He spent an extended period in NY prior to the February All-Star break. Earlier reports indicated that Leonard has been cleared medically by the Spurs, and that the onus is on him to decide when he's comfortable to take the court again. However, time is running out for a return in the regular season with San Antonio down to six games to play. He is averaging 16.2 points and 4.7 rebounds.

"He's trying to get well", Popovich said. Parker elected to utilize the Spurs' doctors while Leonard sought consultation outside the organization, which is a practice the franchise encourages as its goal is to protect the player's long-term future.
