After the first run Sokolović was in third place with a time of 49.13 seconds, and in the second run he showed his superiority - but with a total time of 1:39.82, he won the first gold for Croatia in winter sports.
The sport made its Paralympics debut Friday at the Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
"After finishing third after the first run I never expected I would win gold", said the delighted Croatian, who dedicated the medal to his wife Barbara and daughter Vita.
"When I came across the finish line I had nothing left, I had absolutely nothing left and left it all up there".
Dino lost the use of his legs after a horrific vehicle accident in 2003 when he was 14 years old.
Sin started para Nordic skiing in 2015 and just three years later, he became one of the top athletes in his sport.
"It was incredible, I just let it go full", Coury said of her silver-winning run in the finals. "When I had the accident, I didn't know I would have this kind of life. I'm just proud of my performance and am really happy that I was able to hold it all together when it mattered most".
Adam Hall has won gold in the men's slalom on Saturday, his second medal at the Paralympics this week. The second bronze was won by skier Corey Peters in the men's downhill on day one of the games. The win was the fourth medal of the games for Arendz, who had already taken a silver and bronze in other biathlon events, along with a bronze in the cross country ski sprint.
"We had some chances early and finally we got the first one and that seemed to get us going more", said Team Canada head coach Ken Babey.
"I felt good coming down, but it's so hard in my category because these girls are fast".
I encourage all Canadians to join me in cheering on Mark Arendz and our Paralympic team as they enjoy these last memorable moments at the Games, and as they march in the stadium for the closing ceremony tomorrow evening!
