After further investigation, police said the school in question was identified as being in Springfield, Ohio and the lockdown was lifted at Sandwich High School.
Law enforcement agencies around the country responded.
The alleged threat appeared to be a Facebook posting, Hill said. The district includes Saginaw High School, which also has an "SHS" acronym.
"We appreciate everyone's concern in the matter and continued vigilance for the safety of our children", the Schenectady post states.
"It seems the widely publicized upcoming national student walkout in protest of school violence was misconstrued and believed to be associated with a potential threat against the high school", Todd wrote. The viewer's screenshot included a second post from Andres saying "SHS is the school I want".
School security has been under intense scrutiny in the days following a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida last week. It was investigated by the school and police, he said, and found to be false.
The principal of Simonds High School sent out a recorded phone message to students' parents Thursday morning advising them that a threat had been made against the school but provided no details. As always, please remember, If you see something, say something.
Fort Worth's message to parents was also posted on social media. Local Inland Empire Schools including some in Fontana and Hesperia investigated the incident. The boy was arrested, and police determined that the threat was a hoax.
However, social media threats create additional investigative hurdles- such as the ability to use aliases or attempt to hide the poster's real location.
