Palestine has asked India to play a leading role in the negotiations with Israel for achieving its independence.

In a rare criticism of the Israeli leadership, the American president questioned Israel's commitment to making peace with the Palestinians. Settlements are considered illegal under worldwide law.

A Monday PA press release suggested there has been a behind-the-scenes effort to bring the U.S. back into the center of the Israel-PA peace talks, of which Netanyahu may not have been aware.
