Current Vikings quarterback coach Kevin Stefanski was also reportedly in the mix for the Vikings offensive coordinator vacancy. Former offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur became the Giants head coach on January 26, the day Mike Zimmer began conducting interviews for his replacement down at his ranch in Northern Kentucky.
Prior to joining the Browns, DeFilippo served as the quarterbacks coach of the Oakland Raiders from 2012-14. Taylor joined the Eagles staff under Chip Kelly in 2013 but has continued to impress Pederson and could either replace DeFilippo or stand as a potential option to fill in at wide receivers coach if Mike Groh takes the quarterbacks coach job.
DeFilippo wasn't sharing which names he thought make sense for the Vikings, but did say he thinks athleticism is important for a quarterback to succeed in today's NFL. [Kyle] Rudolph is a really good player, the offensive line has been greatly improved from the first time we played them to this go-around.
"We are very excited to add John to our staff, " Zimmer said in a statement. "Anytime we're making major decisions, we have a systematic approach that I feel is very thorough to get through so that you can make the best decisions possible and this will be no different, whoever comes in".
DeFilippo was clearly an excellent influence on the Eagles' quarterbacks, obviously with Wentz and Foles, and even third string quarterback Nate Sudfeld. In three postseason starts, including a 38-7 victory over the Vikings in the NFC championship game, Foles passed for 971 yards, six touchdowns and threw only one interception for a 115.7 passer rating. If Stefanski remains with Minnesota, the Giants will then turn their attention to Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley. It will be interesting to see (a) who the Vikings' quarterback will be in 2018, and (B) what DeFilippo can do with them.
