Schumer spokesman Matt House says the senator's office notified the White House that Friday's offer to combine wall funding with legal protections for 700,000 younger immigrants living in the USA illegally was off. Trump had rejected the offer.
"We want to see a legislative package that addresses the four things we laid out and can get to the president's desk", Sanders said, adding that the White House's plan is being crafted with an aim of getting it through both chambers in mind.
"And the President wants to lead on this issue, and that's exactly what we're going to do", Sanders said Wednesday.
"Look, the president's number one job as commander in chief and the president is national security, and we can not protect American citizens - we can not protect this country - if we don't secure our border", Sanders said.
When asked if the framework will include citizenship for individuals who qualify for DACA, Sanders said the details will be announced Monday.

But Trump has said repeatedly that any deal to protect those illegal aliens from deportation is contingent on money for the border wall and other security measures.
President Donald Trump tweeted Tuesday "nobody knows" whether a deal can be achieved.
Trump and White House aides have had meetings and calls with lawmakers for months about an immigration overhaul.
Ending chain migration would involve moving to a merit-based immigration system in which hopeful immigrants would be awarded points based on factors that allow individuals to successfully assimilate and support themselves financially, including education level, English ability, and job skills.
Congress members have expressed exasperation that Trump has not clearly articulated his demands and vacillated over the past several weeks, at times signaling he was open to a deal but then reversing himself after speaking with aides or immigration hardliners. It goes over to the Hill, they digest it, develop a bill they think they can passed. He said there can be no deal on DACA without funding for the wall.
"If we don't solve this problem in 14 days, the Republicans are going to have to explain to dreamers what their plan is to prevent them from being deported", Schumer said.
"The failure to enforce our immigration laws has produced lower wages and higher unemployment for American workers", the October proposal reform states.
"I truly appreciate President Trump making it clear that he supports a path to citizenship for DACA recipients".
Even before the government reopened, the rush to Trump's ear began in earnest Monday as a half-dozen of the Senate's immigration hard-liners came to the White House for talks.
