"The Constitution is supreme for me, there can be no question on it, as a citizen I can never go against it", the Minister of State for Skill Development said. "But I don't know what to call those who claim themselves to be secular".
Karnataka chief Minister Siddaramaiah also lashed out on Hegde's remark on secularism and said that Union Minster has no respect for constitution.
He then asked Leader of House Arun Jaitley to speak, but a large number of opposition members continued their protest, shouting slogans and seeking action against Hegde. This was the third time the Lok Sabha was adjourned on Wednesday.
He said: "Here is an example of Hegde. He does not believe in the Constitution of India, he does not believe in the Preamble of Constitution. We hold these leaders in high esteem, as also their commitment to this nation", Jaitley said.
During the Zero Hour, senior BJP leader Bhupender Yadav said he had given notice under Rule 187 as Congress President Gandhi had "intentionally, maliciously and disrespectfully twisted" name of Leader of the House Arun Jaitley in a tweet. Gajghate said Union Minister should appologise to nation and refrain from such statements.
However, Hegde did not clarify his comments at all and the Opposition was adamant that it wants the minister's resignation.
In November, he said no to partake in the annual Tipu Jayanti celebration in Karnataka, as BJP, unlike Congress, observes the Mysore sovereign as an oppressor monarch and considers him of being unfair against Hindus.
He said after that gets over, the party will once again raise the issue of Hegde's controversial remarks.
Mr Ananth Kumar Hegde.as an elected representative.how can u stoop down so low.by commenting on ones parenthood.
BJP's alliance partner, Goa Forward Party (GFP), said they would not like to comment on issues which are of no relevance to Goa. "He is a Union minister, but spits venom".
"Today, it is distressing to see the Constitution, the foundation of our country, under threat".
