Giants' Collins Goes After 'Cancer' Apple During Radio Interview

Collins spoke with coach Steve Spagnuolo and Eli Apple and later took to Twitter on Wednesday, one day after criticizing Apple in a radio interview on The Michael Kay Show on 98.7 ESPN New York.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but it might also cause cancer.

Apple played in 11 games this season while making seven starts.

NY selected Apple with the 10th overall pick in 2016, but after a promising rookie year, his 2017 season has been full of drama. Apple did not play any defensive snaps in that game. Besides, the other two guys, [Rodgers-Cromarie] and [Jenkins], I love those two guys.

"I met with Coach Spags and Eli this morning and I apologized for the things I said yesterday", Collins wrote.

That doesn't mean Collins' sentiment regarding Apple was off base.

The Giants fired GM Jerry Reese - who drafted Apple - and coach Ben McAdoo on December 4.

While his on-field play has left much to be desired on its own, it's Apple's impact in the locker room that already has Giants fans wondering what in the world their team was thinking when they spent a top-10 pick on the former Ohio State Buckeye.

And the criticism has continued this year, with Apple "critiqued more vociferously than any other player" in a film session after the Giants' Nov. 12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and with him "almost walking out on the team" and getting benched as a result. "But that first pick, he's a cancer".

Eli Apple's very hard sophomore National Football League season is over. A new regime might want to rid the team of problems and start over.

It's been a bad one all around for the Giants, and the Apple situation has been the most glaring example of just how bad it's been during one of the worst seasons Big Blue has ever had.
