"I never even wavered and am very proud of him and the job he is doing as a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court", he tweeted.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Washington Post published a story saying Trump considered rescinding the nomination after Gorsuch met with Sen.
One source said aides should have prepared Trump for any statements by Gorsuch that asserted his independence from the president because that is part of a successful nomination process.
Among those whose lack of loyalty have reportedly frustrated Trump, in addition to Gorsuch, are former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James B. Comey, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein. Gorsuch "is really something very special", Trump told the National Rifle Association in April.
In addition, the Post reported that Trump felt Gorsuch had not shown enough gratitude for the lifetime appointment. The judge sent the president a handwritten letter dated March 2, thanking him for the nomination and explaining how grateful he was, according to a copy obtained by The Post. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said the Supreme Court nominee described these attacks as "disheartening" and "demoralizing".
"The justice" referred to the late to Antonin Scalia, whom Gorsuch replaced, and "Mrs. Scalia" is his widow Maureen. But if true, the report further bolsters former FBI Director James Comey's claim that Trump summoned him to the White House and repeatedly said he needed his "loyalty".
"He's probably going to end up being a liberal like the rest of them", Trump reportedly fumed to GOP lawmakers shortly after Blumenthal publicized the comments. "I see daily their love of country and our Constitution, and know it is a tribute to you and your leadership for policy is always about personnel".
The letter congratulated Trump "on such a great start" and praised the president's address to Congress as "magnificent".
"My young little girls were cheering the TV!" he included.
President Trump had reportedly been unhappy that Gorsuch hadn't been appreciative enough of the nomination, and was anxious after Gorsuch appeared to be critical of some of Trump's statements regarding federal courts.
