Starring Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in pivotal roles, the trailer of PadMan is out. In the R Balki-directorial venture, Akshay Kumar stepping into the shoes of national hero Arunachalam Muruganantham; the inventor of low-priced sanitary napkins for women in rural areas.
What's really interesting is that the film touches upon a very important social topic but is told through the lens of humour. Sonam Kapoor is also the part of this upcoming flick. There are many who come up with life changing ideas, but only a few manage to go against all odds to make their ideas turn to reality.
PadMan has created good buzz on social media in the last 15 to 20 days thanks to Akshay Kumar. Akshay ─ called Lakshmikant Chauhan in the film ─ plays the character of Muruganantham who was ostracised by his community and family, including his wife, as menstruation remains a taboo subject in India. "This one's for the mad ones, the ones who are insane enough to change the world", he wrote.
The trailer starts off with narration from Amitabh Bachchan, declaring "Pad Man" as India's answer to American superheroes like Superman, Spiderman and Batman. It's when mother-sisters and the women are strong only then a country can become strong.
Sonam Kapoor, a social worker then comes in as a guiding light to help Akshay materialize his dream, and eventually become an worldwide figure. PadMan is a project Akshay and Twinkle were eager to bring on the big screen for a long time.
