Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the forthcoming appearance of Amazon Prime Video to the Apple TV earlier this year, but the launch kept getting pushed back for unknown reasons. In addition to Amazon, the TV app on iOS devices where users on the iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV can find various shows and movies now has live sports incorporated within the interface, so fans will be able to keep track of games and their favorite teams in real time. The Apple TV platform now supports Amazon Prime Video, thanks to a just-launched app.
Ever since Apple TV began, Amazon had kept its Prime Video app off the service.
With one controversy seemingly solved, Amazon now turns to Google, which announced on Tuesday that it would block its YouTube video app on Amazon devices because it does not sell Google hardware like Chromecast streaming dongles and Google Home smart speakers, per Investor's Business Daily.
Amazon Prime Video is a free perk for Prime subscribers, a membership which costs $79 CAD per year and includes free two-day shipping, Prime Music and more.
Until now, Prime Video could be streamed to Apple TVs through Apple's AirPlay feature, but that experience was more kludgy than a native app on the set-top. The good news is that, thanks to the nature of streaming, fans can now catch up on Catastrophe or Red Oaks and prepare for the upcoming Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams, which drops on January 12, as long as they have a newer Apple TV (3rd generation or later). Some have already speculated that Amazon will start selling Apple TVs on its site again. The app is rolling out in the U.S., the U.K., Canada and possibly more locations. "And they're going to return it", said Bezos at the 2016 Code Conference. Now that it has all changed today, let's see how things are going to pan out between Apple and Amazon.
