Three people are dead, including a Colorado State University student, and another person was injured in an early-morning shooting at the Sunstone Apartments, just northwest of campus. The incident was also marked as the deadliest shooting in Larimer County in more than a decade. He was off-duty at the time of the 2 a.m. shooting. Her identity hasn't been released.
A motive for the shooting wasn't known.
Police say the suspected shooter was known to at least one of the victims.
The other three people involved in the shooting have not been identified as of October 20.
The scene of the crime was cordoned off by yellow police tape.
CSU students were advised to lock doors, stay inside and avoid the area where the shooting happened.
Darren Rutz, a former CSU student who lives near the scene, told CBS Denver station KCNC-TV he was awakened by gunfire, followed by a woman's call for help. The shooting suspect was among those killed.
"We are deeply saddened by this bad loss to our campus community and will share more information as we have it", the university said in an email to students and staff, the Coloradoan reported.
One of the people who was killed was Savannah McNealy, a senior student at Colorado State University. McNealy was studying liberal arts and art history. McNealy also contributed to CSU Life, a monthly campus publication, where she worked as a designer.
McNealy lived in Fort Collins, Colorado.
On Friday, CSU President Tony Frank addressed a large crowd at a memorial for McNealy. McNealy was set to graduate in December. CSU is a public university with more than 33,000 students. The school is roughly 65 miles from Denver.
The shootings took place in a neighborhood of apartment and condominium buildings, most of whose occupants are university students or employees.
