The yatra comes close on the heels of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's three-day visit to the Saurashtra region last week. The primary itinerary shows that Modi will also visit Rajkot to lay the foundation stone for International Airport at the city before moving to South Gujarat for another infrastructure project for Bhaddbhut weir in Bharuch District.
Two motorised raths have been prepared to facilitate party state president Jitu Vaghani and deputy chief minister Nitin Patel's trip through the state and several SUVs painted in the colour of the party will travel along with them during the march.
As the state assembly polls get closer, the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress are throwing their weight for the campaigning even as the Election Commission of India (EC) is likely to announce the poll dates in a week or so. Today, Amit Shah also took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi's recent visit to the USA, calling it a vacation.
Rahul Gandhi had also hit out the Prime Minister for waiving off loan of country's rich industrialists. The campaign was launched by BJP national president Amit Shah from Karamsad, which is the native place of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Rahul Gandhi had talked ill about the current government in Gujarat and had said that the Gujarat Model has failed.
"Rahul always questions what Prime Minister Narendra Modi did in past three years, but I want to ask what UPA did in 10 years", Shah asked.
He said Modi ensured 24-hour electricity, water through Narmada dam and investments through Vibrant Gujarat Summit.
The BJP president will conduct the yatra till October 15 during which he will address 138 "jan sabhas" across the state.
