Auburn's defense looked to be the tougher unit to start the game, but just when it looked like it might score a knockout blow, Clemson turned the game around.
What should you expect in the top 10 matchup between Auburn and Clemson? Stidham averaged just 3.3 yards per pass attempt and took only two fewer sacks than he had pass completions. Auburn allowed 19 sacks total in 2016, but the 2017 campaign sees the Tigers sitting at a tally of 14 sacks allowed already.
All eyes will be on Kelly Bryant as he faces his first major test as Clemson's starting quarterback, of course, and fellow Upstate natives C.J. Fuller and Tavien Feaster will also be key for the Clemson offense at running back, but Travis Etienne is a Clemson back to be reckoned with, too.
Auburn's defensive front will force Bryant into a couple of game-changing mistakes, set up the offense in good field position and the SEC variety of Tigers will spring the upset.
Austin Bryant finished with four sacks. Bryant appeared to be just fine.
Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson, who suffered a hamstring injury in last week's season-opening win against Georgia Southern, did not dress out for the game, but starter Kamryn Pettway did and was the Tigers' early workhorse, carrying 16 times for 59 yards in the first half and finishing with 74 yards on 22 carries.
"We didn't get it done offensively", Malzahn said. "We settled in and really just played dominant football defensively", Swinney said. Quarterback Jarrett Stidham was sacked 11 times. "Clemson had a lot to do with that, but we have to find ways to get it done". "We ask all fans traveling to the area to be patient and plan for possible extended time getting into and out of town on game day".
Wide receiver Hunter Renfrow led Clemson with nine receptions for 62 yards.
Auburn gave the defending champions a hard time in last season's 19-13 loss at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The six points extend his Auburn record to 371 points scored, making him seventh best in SEC history.
According to the ESPN broadcast Saturday night, it only took two weeks of action for Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn to assume play-calling duties again.
