Liverpool had shown interest in Salah back in 2014, but the Egyptian worldwide ultimately moved to Chelsea.
Meanwhile, if the deal with Liverpool this summer exceeds the £34m they paid for Sadio Mane, Salah will become the most expensive African player ever.
After only six Premier League starts, he had successful loan spells away from Chelsea at Fiorentina and then Roma, before making the latter a permanent move for about £15m last summer.
The attacker has managed 34 goals for Roma over the last two seasons, however, including 19 in 41 appearances for the Italian giants during the 2016-17 campaign.
The 25-year-old Egypt worldwide is set to eclipse the £35m which Liverpool shelled out for Newcastle hitman Andy Carroll in 2011 and become the most expensive African player in the history of the game.
It looks like a breakthrough has finally been reached as the Mirror are one of several media outlets reporting today that Salah has been given the green light to fly-in to London later today. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.
