Cousins, in his first playoff start, said he learned plenty from that game that he tried to build on heading into his second season as a full-time starter. Green Bay erased an 11-0 deficit at FedEx Field in last season's NFC Wild Card game and eliminated the Redskins with a 35-18 victory. Maybe not literally, but perhaps in spirit.
After the teams traded possessions to open the extra period, safety LaRon Landry intercepted Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, setting up the Redskins for a game-winning drive. They've got the potential to beat nearly any team in the league, but recently they've never seemed to come together at the right time and play the sixty minutes of good football needed to win the game. Clay Matthews and Jared Cook are listed as questionable as well.
Last year's playoff game represented more than just a loss on the field - it was a loss in the wallet, as players are given a bonus for each playoff win. "You can say all the right things and be as prepared as possible, but it comes down to executing when you get out there".
If the 2016 season ended today the 4-5 Packers would have the 12th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. "I think we've done a decent job with the circumstances, but hopefully we can get some guys healthy and get back to a normal offense".
To that end, Green Bay was awarded running back Christine Michael on waivers Wednesday. In his last four games, he has thrown for two or more touchdowns a game, while averaging 310 passing yards per game and completing 66% of his passes.
"I think it's ridiculous", Rodgers said Wednesday when asked about the scrutiny on McCarthy.
Not that Rodgers cares at this point, but the whole you're not here/you don't play so you don't know defense is wearing pretty thin.
Ailed by injuries, the 4-5 Packers have yet to establish a real identity this season.
The Packers have a respectable 22 sacks on the season, though 14 came in the first four games. Rodgers had a big game in nearly upsetting Atlanta in Week 8 and rallied the team from deficits in losses to Indianapolis in Week 9 and Tennessee in Week 10. If Washington can't catch the Cowboys or second-place Giants, it just has to stay ahead of the other also-rans, something it can get a start on Sunday night.
"This game is important because it's the game this week, so that's what we're focused on: beating the Redskins, " Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy said. "We just need to find a way to win".
