Secretary Wyman and the state Elections Director Lori Augino said Tuesday that county election departments will also honor mail-in applications with an October 11 postmark.
If a student is registered in a different state, they can not register to vote in Kentucky and will need to check with their county clerk on how to obtain an absentee ballot. Early voting will take place in the Gordon County Elections and Voter Registration Office, from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Fahrendorf explained that applications postmarked after that time still will be accepted and processed; however, the applications will not be approved until after November 8.
For more information about the election, call the county clerk's office at 679-3516. Sometimes voters' names may not appear on the registration list when they arrive to vote, even if they previously registered.
Voters must obtain a voter registration application from a polling station and submit that application 30 days before an election to vote in that election, making Tuesday the last day to register for MI voters.
The office asks voters to keep in mind that several United States Postal Service processing plants and distribution centers in Florida closed at noon Thursday due to Hurricane Matthew and will not reopen until 8 a.m. Saturday.
They think social media pushes are helping the younger generation get motivated to vote this election cycle. Prior to the enactment of this new law, the only way a registered voter was allowed to vote prior to Election Day was through absentee voting. Colorado does not require a specific request for an absentee ballot. Sanders and Missoula Counties have similar offices in their county's seat.
"We have more registered voters than we've ever had in Smith County", she said.
Voters can fill out the registration form here, but must mail in the form.
The Nov. 8 General Election is now less than five weeks away.
Also, registered voters have the option to request an early voting ballot through the mail. All mailed ballots must be returned to the county election office by 8 p.m. on Election Day (Nov. 8). If you have not requested your mail ballot yet, you still have time to do so.
State residents will have more time to submit voter registration forms to be able to vote in the 2016 General Election.
"Registration has been very busy this year", Elections Administrator Karen Nelson said.
